Swan Automotive Parts is set to expand its pump catalogue

Inside your vehicle’s engine, a key component ensures smooth operation: the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP). Included in the Swan Fuel Pumps range, this crucial part has been integral to cars since the early 2000s, particularly with the advent of direct fuel injection systems.

As automakers grappled with stricter emissions and fuel economy standards in the 2010s, the importance of these pumps grew. Delivering fuel at extremely high pressures, typically ranging from 1,500 to 7,500 psi, they ensure optimal fuel atomisation for efficient combustion by injecting it directly into the engine’s combustion chamber.

The high pressure in direct injection systems results in fine fuel atomisation, enhancing the air-fuel mixture quality. This improvement leads to higher power output, better fuel economy, and lower emissions of pollutants such as NOx, CO2, and particulate matter.

Swan to cover most cars which utilise high-pressure fuel pumps,

Swan Automotive Parts is now set to expand its pump catalogue to cover most cars which utilise high-pressure fuel pumps, which will complement its extensive line-up of in-tank electronic fuel pumps and module assemblies.

In-tank fuel pumps, located inside the fuel tank, play a crucial role in delivering fuel to the engine. These pumps are submerged in fuel, keeping them cool and reducing the risk of vapor lock. They draw fuel from the tank and send it through the fuel lines to the engine.

SWAN says its in-tank fuel pumps are known for their quality and performance, ensuring a consistent fuel supply for optimal engine performance. They also feature advanced filtration systems which trap contaminants, preventing potential damage.

Despite the rise of electric cars, combustion engine vehicles continue to dominate the market and will remain in use for the foreseeable future.

Consequently, these vehicles will require regular maintenance and repairs, with the fuel pump being a component that will inevitably need replacement. Common issues relating to fuel pump failure include fuel starvation, where the pump can’t maintain sufficient pressure, leading to engine misfires, loss of power, hard starts, and stalling under high load.

Premature wear of components such as plungers, seals, and cam lobes are common in high-pressure fuel pumps, while in-tank pumps have an electric motor that can fail. Low-quality fuel can clog filters and damage pump internals. Additionally, carbon build-up in direct injection engines reduces airflow and performance.

When you find yourself in the position of needing a replacement pump, Swan says it has been a pillar of excellence in the automotive industry for nearly 20 years.
